Top Gun at the Drive-In
For many years during our summers in BC, we would always drive past the Starlight Drive-In in Enderby, but never stopped to see a movie. The first time we ever stopped was in 2016, and the nightly double feature was Finding Dory and Star Trek Beyond.
This summer, when we found out we were going to BC, I was hoping Top Gun: Maverick would be playing at the drive-in because the original Top Gun is my dad’s all-time favourite movie (he watches it at least once a year). At first when I checked the movie line up for the dates we would be there in August, the movie wasn’t playing, which made sense because it had come out back in May. Well, a day or two before the weekend, my sister checked again and back by popular demand, for two nights only, Top Gun: Maverick would be showing at the drive-in (alongside Minions: The Rise of Gru). The night we went, it was actually our third time seeing the movie, because it was that good, but there was nothing like seeing it on the big screen out in the open air as we watched shooting stars go by.
If you’ve never been to a drive-in movie, I highly suggest going if you ever get the chance; there’s just something about the simplicity of it all that creates an unforgettable movie watching experience.
