Styled Wedding Shoot

Styled wedding shoots have become increasingly popular amongst creatives the last few years, whether it be for photographers and videographers to get content for their portfolio, a florist to show off their work and partner with local wedding photographers, or a dress designer to get their name out there, vendors of all professions come together to support each others’ businesses. For our wedding class this semester, my classmates and I were tasked on executing a styled wedding shoot and delivering a variety of photographs showing various aspects of a wedding day.

The first aspect of the wedding day we documented was the getting ready portion, and I specifically photographed the bride getting ready. When it comes to getting ready images on your big day, they are often times at someone’s house or maybe a hotel room, and the rooms tend to have unwanted clutter. As your wedding photographer, it is my job to be creative in how I capture these moments, so that they are still treasured images that you want to look back on. Well, the room Laura was getting ready in at her mom’s house had a small closet with a mirror on the front that read “you are amazing,” and let me tell you, the portrait I took of Laura in front of that mirror just might be one of my favourites from the day!

The next part of the wedding day we decided to document were the bride and groom formal portraits. Our bride and groom were friends of mine from high school, Jayden and Laura, who are in fact getting married this coming August! They were fantastic models for us, and got lots of practice for their formal wedding portraits when their big day rolls around! We chose to photograph our couple at the Stone Barn and Cultural Village in Leduc, Alberta, which is a lovely outdoor area near Telford Lake with a number of photographic backdrops, such as the stone barn representing the original dairy barn that once stood there, what was once a milking shed, or beautifully landscaped stone steps and flower beds. If you are in the market for some new portraits, whether engagement, wedding, family, etc., I would highly recommend the Stone Barn in Leduc!

We knew we also wanted to feature a local florist’s wedding bouquet in our photographs as well, and seeing as I work at Leduc Florists, they were more than happy to provide us with a lovely bouquet! The bouquet featured five blush pink roses, three yellow pomponi gerbera daisies, and a variety of fillers and greenery. If you find yourself in need of some beautiful flowers, and are in the Leduc area, drop by Leduc Florists and say hi to Meagan and Sarah; they will be sure to meet all your floral needs!

Overall, the styled wedding shoot was a fantastic experience that I thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot from! Thank you again to all who were involved in making this shoot a success, and be sure to check out my fellow classmates, Eliot Paul of Dalziel - Paul Creations, Patrick Edinga Photography, and Ryan Charron Photo for more photography work!
